Honorable Mention
Every day, engineers are always creating, brainstorming, and thinking of new ways to make our lives better. We take a lot of the things for granted, but if we really took the time to think about how much work was put into just preparing to make it, we would see how hard it is to be an engineer. Take a clock, all we do is look at it and get the time, but if we took it apart, we would see that it is really a million little pieces that work together, created by an engineer. First they had to think about what they wanted to build, they had to think about how they wanted it to look and how it would work. Then, they would brainstorm different ideas, design, and then start building. Just like all of the parts in a clock work together, so do engineers. They all have to work together to get their projects completed. Working together and giving different ideas is one of the main parts of being an engineer. They also have to get along.
Engineers are a main part of life and are the people that create the future. Just ten years ago, we didn’t have digital cameras, now we have digital cameras, and portable printers!!! Just think of what the world will look like in one hundred years. Engineers have a lot to do with it.
In 100 years, the future will look amazing. There will be flying cars, pop-up buildings, new animals, and teleporting. There is one major problem with life today, and I recently dealt with it. The problem is fires. My house burnt down, and I am hoping in the future they will be able to stop it.
As of today, engineers have created a little sprinkler that will go off when heat touches it. These mount to the ceiling and when the little tube feels heat, the sprinkler will go off. In the future, they should invent a gadget that can stop the fire within a second!!! Today, they have lasers that can zap things and burn objects. My idea is that the lasers will be hidden in the ceiling. There would be sensors all around the house so when the littlest things happens, it will detect it. The sensors will send the message in a billionth of a second!!! Then a part of the ceiling will move, and the laser would come out. It would shoot the flame. The flame would go out and the fire will be gone.
If that is too far in the future, from now until then, they should create a new material to make houses out of. It should be stylish, but safe. It should not be flammable, and should be able to come in different colors. I really think that both of these ideas are really good and can really make a difference. I would be happy if engineers created some of these things, I would also be happy because I thought of these ideas all on my own.
Like I said, the gadget that I thought of would be able to put out the fire in a billionth of a second! That is what the future is mostly about. Everything is going to be about ease and speed. Everything that is going to be created will be all about those two things. If I grow up to be an engineer, I will try my best to help the world. I am getting really interested in engineering, and would like to learn more about it. I think that my ideas will be Engineering Grand Challenge.
